Disputes Are Expected To Hold Back While Waiting For The Revision Of The Copyright Law To Be Completed

JAKARTA - A consultation meeting to discuss copyright issues and music royalties was held in the room of Commission XIII DPR RI, DPR/MPR RI Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta today, Thursday, August 21.

The leadership of the DPR RI and members of Commission XIII also invited musicians, commissioners of the National Collective Management Institute (LMKN), to administrators of the Collective Management Institute (LMK) to attend this meeting.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said that the DPR together with the Government and LMKN agreed to end the polemic of song/music royalties. He hopes that all parties also agree to keep the atmosphere cool and peaceful.

"The dynamics that have occurred have been agreed to end together, and we will keep the atmosphere conducive," Dasco said in a press conference after the consultation meeting.

"The results of the meeting, it was agreed that all parties should maintain the atmosphere of the world of music so that it is cool and peaceful. All parties agreed that in the past two months they would concentrate on completing the (revision) of the Copyright Law," he continued.

In addition, Dasco said there was an agreement stating that royalty payments were made directly through LMKN.

On the other hand, the government also explained the details of Permenkum Number 27 of 2025. This new regulation regulates royalty management, strengthens the position of LMKN, and most importantly concerns transparency in royalty management.

The Permenkum also discussed the institutional structure of LMKN, consisting of the Chairperson of the LMKN Creator and the Chairperson of the Related Rights LMKN, plus the operational costs set at 8 percent of the royalties collected.
