JAKARTA - It has been three decades since Benjamin Sueb died, but his works, especially music, are still being displayed and enjoyed by Jakarta residents.
Benjamin's works that are easy to find cannot be separated from the many groups that still dedicate themselves to performing the late's songs on various stages. Sueb Band is one of them.
Through a simple performance at a cafe in Joglo, West Jakarta on Saturday, August 16 evening, the Sueb Band celebrated 22 years of musical travel as Benjamin's tribute group.
They performed popular songs of Benjamin in front of hundreds of people who still memorized and enjoyed the works of the Betawi art icon.
Moreover, Joe, vocalist and leader of the Sueb Band, was able to imitate Benjamin's vocal character which is thick with the Betawi dialect.
"The figure of Babeh Benjamin can't change, he's multitalent. People who can do anything," Joe said of Benjamin's irreplaceable figure, when met by VOI before his appearance.
