Singer Or EO, Ariel NOAH Calls Parties Who Must Pay Royalties To Song Creators

JAKARTA - Nazril Irham or commonly called Ariel NOAH, talks about differences of opinion about who should pay royalties for performing rights from music performances to songwriters.

Ariel admitted that he was confused when the singer as the performer had to pay royalties to the songwriter. According to him, the regulations that apply and the general implementation are the party that pays it.

"This is about the request for royalty payments imposed on the singer, not the event organizers. It has actually been regulated in the Copyright Law (UUHCC), although some say that it is not clear who has to pay," Ariel said, citing his statement on Instagram, Monday, March 24.

"But so far, generally what is known, what we have been running for years, the event organizers have paid the royalties. Well, this rule is also commonly practiced in the music industry around the world," he continued.

The 43-year-old singer has no problem with differences of opinion. However, according to him, musicians are better off listening to the explanation of the lawmaker, rather than continuing to argue.

"But from all the fussy things, we music industry players are not the ones who have the authority to set regulations. So in my opinion, it is the regulations that have the right to explain how it should be," said Ariel.

Furthermore, the singer from Bandung highlighted the plan to revise the UUHC, which is currently undergoing the process at the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI). He hopes that all parties will be involved for better revision results.

"As we all know, the Copyright Law will be revised soon, hopefully all parties will be involved, looking for a fair solution for all," said Ariel.

"I really hope for good changes to occur. But for the time being, until the new Law is completed and passed, I think it should be the authorities who provide clarity in this quo status period," he added. Don't let Indonesian music industry players become confused or afraid or even treated unfairly to be able to sing a song.
