Piyu Calls Many People Misperceptions About The Copyright Law

Piyu together with several members of the All-Indonesian Composite Association (AKSI) visited the Ministry of Law (Kemenkum) to convey aspirations regarding the revision of the Copyright Law (UUHC) to the Minister of Law (Menkum) Supratman Andi Agtas.

The Padi Reborn frontman who is also the General Chair of the ACTION explained that there was a misperception (missed) related to UUHC which has been believed by many people, including musicians.

The long-standing mistake, said Piyu, resulted in problems that many musicians are currently fighting over.

"I want to convey that actually the issue of copyright protection, especially for songwriters, has been going on for quite a long time. And actually since the 2014 Copyright Law was passed, it has provided clear protection, but in the articles of the Copyright Law there are many who interpret it as wrong or misleading," said Piyu during a press conference after an audience with the Minister of Law and Human Rights.

Piyu saw that there were many negative impacts that were eventually borne by songwriters with this misleading, including matters of permits and royalties that never reached the creator.

"So, when implementing music performances, a concert event, event, only songwriters don't get their rights," said Piyu.

"Therefore, here we convey to the Minister our complaint. Maybe not only from 2014, but from previous years, previous song creators. Some have not got their rights," he added.

Together with other members of the Hurricane ex Kerispatih, Anji, Denny Chasmala, Bemby Noor and Pika Iskandar Piyu also expressed their hope that songwriters would get their economic rights fairly.

"From our side as songwriters, we convey that there are many inequality and also differences obtained from the creator side. So, we want there to be an acceleration of improvement, change, so that this songwriter can indeed do and get his rights fairly, in accordance with the law," concluded Piyu.
