John Myung Calls Mike Portnoy's Return To Make Dream Theater Stronger

Dream Theater bassist John Myung discussed the band's decision to reunite with one of its founders and drummer Mike Portnoy.

Dream Theater's 13-year journey without Portnoy which then returns in 2023 makes the personnel feel stronger as a unit.

"I think he's ready to come back, and he's been talking to some people in the band, then we had a meeting. And the point of the meeting was, 'We talked to Mike and he's ready to go home.' And that makes a lot of sense, because Mike wants to get back into the band,' Myung said in a recent interview with The Heavy Metal Journal.

Myung also talked about Dream Theater's newly released 16th studio album, "Parasomnia", which marks the first release since Portnoy's return.

The 58-year-old Bassist said the songwriting and recording process went very well, without any significant problems.

"It feels like when Mike first joined the band. And it feels great to be back with him and get back together that we once had. Then when he left, many things I thought were missing, because that's all I know. We can audit some drummers and get to know their personalities, and Mike's return to the band is a huge thing for us, "said Myung.

We are in a very good place, and everything makes more sense to me. I can look back and realize the things I think are normal. So I appreciate the band and the togetherness we have now," he said.
