Eloy Casagrande Calls His Mask Design Made To Remember The Late Joey Jordison

JAKARTA - Joining Slipknot since November 2023, Eloy Casagrande (drums) who came from Brazil finally opened his voice regarding the mask design he wore to appear on stage.

Meanwhile, the white Casagrande mask is similar to Joey Jordison's mask with a black line and bullet holes on the forehead.

Casagrande said he worked on the mask design with Slipknot co-founder Shawn Clown Crahan. White was chosen in memory of the late Joey Jordison, the initial drummer and founder of Slipknot who died on July 26, 2021.

"The top is something I made with Clown. The first thing he asked me at the start was like, 'Can we have a white mask for you?' The first thing to do is remember Joey. Respect his legacy, "said Casagrande, citing the Modern Drummer Official YouTube channel, Sunday, January 26.

"And I propose to create like these black lines in memory of the native Brazilians," he continued.

For him, it is important to bring Brazilian elements in the design of masks. He wanted to bring along the culture of the people from the Land of Samba.

"But my expression, my facial expression, is designed by Clown. He saw me playing without a mask and said, 'That's how you look when playing Slipknot music. So, we'll put it on your mask.'"

Then, Casagrande revealed the meaning of the bullet hole in the forehead, which tells the incident he experienced two years ago.

"I came up with the idea of a bullet hole. Two years ago, I was robbed in Srypto Paulo. I was walking around my neighborhood, it was nine in the morning, I went to the fitness center, and two men riding motorbikes stopped me and pointed a gun at my head and asked me to give my cell phone and backpack," said the 33-year-old drummer.

"It was something that changed a lot in me somehow. And he decided not to shoot. So, I was lucky," he continued.

For information, Joey Jordison was the drummer for Slipknot until 2013. He died in 2021 at the age of 46.

The position left by Jordison was filled by Jay Weinberg, who eventually left the band after a decade.

Meanwhile, Casagrande left Sepultura shortly before the Brazilian band disbanded.
