JAKARTA - Rock Choir as the UK's biggest choir says they will no longer feature The Police's song "Everyone Breath You Take".

Previously, the hits from the album 'Synchronicity' (1983) were one of the repertoires that Rock Choir often performed with more than 31 thousand members.

The prohibition of bringing 'Everyone Breath You Take' is due to the lyric content of the song, which is said to describe a violent relationship where the main character appears to be stalking someone who attracts attention.

In a letter to the entire choir, Caroline Redman Lusher, founder of Rock Choir, explained that the decision to stop all future performances of the song was made due to the negative impacts caused by several members.

"DearRockies, after a lot of thinking and discussions with some team members, I have made a difficult decision to remove the 'Everyone Breath You Take' from the repertoar," Lusher said in his letter, citing Far Out Magazine, Friday, January 24.

"I've never deleted a song before, but because of the impact of the narrative on some Rockies and potentials if taught more negative and challenging feelings from the wider members, I think it would be wise to change the song," he continued.

Meanwhile, Rock Choir has a group of more than 400 communities across the UK, and Redman Lusher was awarded the MBE by King Charles III recently. The award acknowledges his services to music and charity work.

For information, Sting, who wrote the song "Everyone Breath You Take", has long dismissed claims that the song contains creepy lyrics.

In 1993, he discussed the controversy surrounding the song by saying he saw it as a statement about the Big Brother rather than as a stalking person.

"I woke up in the middle of the night with those lyrics on my head, sitting in front of the piano and writing them in half an hour," said Sting.

"The song itself is generic, a combination of hundreds of other songs, but the lyrics are interesting, it sounds like a calming love song. At that time I didn't realize how scary the song was. I thought I was thinking about Big Brother, surveillance and control," he said.
