Archives Becomes The Fundamental Thing To See Indonesian Music Landscape

JAKARTA - Good filing is the main key in looking at the Indonesian music landscape. The existence of complete data can be the initial capital in determining the direction of the music industry in the future or making music the pride of a nation.

David Tarigan, co-founder of Irama Nusantara, a foundation focused on filing popular Indonesian music, said that complete data was needed to bring Indonesian music to a further level.

"(The data) is basic, yes, it means the basis of everything to be brought to the following level," said David Tarigan in Sudirman, Central Jakarta some time ago.

"Just like when we were in school, when we did research, what we did for the first time was data research," he continued.

David also said that the music conference that had been held in Ambon several years ago also emphasized data collection as an important element that must be done in seeing the music ecosystem.

Regarding what has been done with Irama Nusantara, David said the work of music filings was already at an easier stage, than when they started in 2013.

"In data collection, the difficulty is the availability of data. There are many causes of availability that have problems, the obstacles vary," said David.

"But maybe now it's in a further step. Collective awareness from the Indonesian people about the importance of the archives, the importance of data collection is much better," he added.

David said that the current archive efforts are not only focused on big cities. There is also an initiative in collecting data on music in various regions in Indonesia.

"Support and initiatives can be present from anywhere, even now similar initiatives can be obtained in the regions as well," he concluded.
