Inspired By A Signalless Travel, Aldi Haqq Presents Single Sunda Strait

JAKARTA - Aldi Haqq introduced his latest unique work titled Sunda Strait. Packed nicely with piano and string sections that absorb the influence of Elton John's era music, Aldi made an attractive offer.

Previously, Aldi, a multi-instrumental singer, had released his first single 'Peak of Love' (2023), and was followed by Fels Like We're Still a Lover which was released in August 2024.

According to an official statement in Jakarta, Thursday, the concept of five stages of grief, aka five stages of grief, inspired Aldi to write this song.

He made the song 'Sunda Strait' on his way back and forth from Pekanbaru to Bandung in mid-2022, the ferry from Bakauheni to Merak, which Aldi was riding, was stuck in the middle of the sea for more than two hours.

Floating in the middle of the night in the middle of the Sunda Strait, without cellular signals, was only armed with notebooks and bolpoins until he was reminded of his broken love affair three months earlier.

Aldi admitted that this moment just arrived and was unexpected, considering that Aldi was actually in the acceptance stage, after successfully passing denial, anger, bargaining, and depression.

"At that time I could actually smile again, I was happy. I've forgotten the past. But I suddenly thought, if the child now said: relax," he said, quoting ANTARA, December 20.

According to Aldi, it took him about an hour to write the first draft of the lyrics of the song Sunda Strait.

He muted his tone and recorded it on his cellphone. Arriving home, Aldi immediately recorded this song in his room and the 'Sundanese Strait' was completed in four days. However, Aldi chose to keep it first.

Although the lyrics were written in a short time, this song experienced a two-year childhood period before it was finally released to the public.

Therefore, Aldi has sufficient space and time to explore the 'Sundanese Strait'. This includes efforts to conquer various challenges, such as different arrangements and singing methods that are spaced from the previous two songs.

"In my opinion, this is my best song so far, in terms of writing, arrangement, and including my vocals. Because this is the first time I've tried a way to sing in a high tone in the style of rockers 70-80," said Aldi.

The song 'Sunda Strait' will later be part of Aldi's debut album which is planned to be released in 2025. This soloist worked on his album with one concept, namely how humans went through five stages of grief and looked at the past.
