The Story Of Bill Wyman Returning To Record For The Rolling Stones

JAKARTA - Bill Wyman revealed how he was involved in The Rolling Stones' 24th studio album, "Hackney Diamonds" which was released in 2023.

It is known that Wyman filled in the bass for the song 'Live by the Sword', with Mick Jagger (vocals), Keith Richards (guit), lostee Wood (guitar), Elton John (piano), and Charlie Watts (drums).

The 88-year-old bassist admitted that he was willing to be involved because in the song there was a drum filling of the late Watts, who first died in 2021.

When the Stones had one song with Charlie in it, Mick and producer Andrew Watt called to ask me to play there, said Bill Wyman in a recent interview with Louder.

Wyman said he was happy to be involved in the Stones again, after deciding to leave the band in 1993. However, he was not too happy with the song "Live by the Sword", which he called too much guitar filling.

"I'm not crazy about the song, and I'm not crazy about the way they do it. (The song) is full of guitars, and there's no air in it. No spatiality, no gaps. Maybe there are eight guitars there, not two," he said.

It can be done much simpler. But that's how they do it. It's hard for me to enter the bass because there's not much space.

Furthermore, Wyman said there was another Rolling Stones song, which he also contributed to. However, the song has not yet been released.

"After I finish my part, and feel happy with the result, I said, 'Do you have another song that I can make when I'm here?' And they said, 'Yes, there's one more.' So they prepared it, and I played bass there, and they said, 'We keep it for the next album.'

For information, Bill Wyman was the initial member of The Rolling Stones when he released his self-titled debut album in 1964. He also felt the Stones golden age, by being involved in more than 20 albums.

For the album Voodoo Lounge which was released in 1994, Watts is no longer a Stones personnel. His position was replaced byima Jones, although he was not declared an official member.
