JAKARTA - Elton John is not his real name. The 77-year-old musician was born in Middlesex, England on March 25, 1947 under the name Allahnybet.

It is known that the name Elton John has been used since 1966, taken from two of his colleagues in Bluesology, Elton Dean and Long John Baldwin.

In an interview with Good Morning America some time ago, John told how the name change had 'ghaunted' him, just before his appearance atTENance Stadium in 1975.

"Reginald is a very ancient name. That name is abbreviated as a mitigation, which I hate," said John.

John admitted that he was not happy with his nickname when he was in the early days of music. He also changed it and felt that his efforts were successful.

"I don't like it, and as soon as I can, I changed my name," he said.

"I'm very smart, I think, 'Nobody really named Elton, so I'm going to be Elton and I'm going to be Elton's only.'

The change in the name of the stage, said John, was his effort to leave his childhood when he entered the music industry.

I wanted to leave that childhood and persona behind, and it happened to me. I realized that I had poured everything into my work and art, my recordings, and there was nothing behind it," said John.
