M Bloc Music Festival Becomes An 'Dangerous' Newcomer Artist Incubation

JAKARTA - Celebrating his 5th anniversary on September 26, M Bloc will hold a series of events titled Evoria M Bloc Fest 2024. The event will last for 10 days, from September 27 to October 6 at M Bloc Space, South Jakarta.

This event consisted of M Bloc Design Week (27 September 6 October), M Bloc Music Festival (27, 28, 29 September) then X Short, X Fashion, and X OpenLab (27, 28, 29 September).

According to his vision as Festivals For the Next Big Things, this event deliberately involves many young people and newcomers in the realm of art, including design, fashion, films to music. Through the annual event, M Bloc will be a community filling pot to network in Jakarta.

Interestingly, the process of curation, talent discovery, and new works for M Bloc Fest this year has been running since the beginning of the year through the Evoria Festival 2024 which was held from May 26 to June 2 at M Bloc Space. In addition to music and fashion performances, music, film, fashion, art & design is also held in a workshop format, meeting, to consulting works with professionals in their respective fields.

At M Bloc Music Fest, a number of musicians will appear who are dominantly young and emerging artists. Their presence is fully supported through curation, debriefing, and opening networking.

The number of music artists who participated in this year's Evoria event was recorded as many as 907 musicians/bands from various cities in Indonesia. Of the nearly a thousand submissions, around 200 were selected for the incubation process.

At that stage they will get a lot of new knowledge and connections. Furthermore, the organizers will take a billboard until three musicians are selected who will focus more on it.

"From here, we hope that we can take them flying everywhere. In one to three years maybe they will appear not only at domestic music festivals but also festivals abroad," said Edric Chandra as the Evoria Movement Initiator Program.

The Director of M Bloc Group program, Wendy Putranto, also recommends a number of young and 'dangerous' musicians who will be born from this incubation program. Some of the names he mentioned include Amis, Intisore, and KRLY.

A number of well-known musicians also appeared on the M Bloc Music Fest lineup, including Voice of Baceprot (VoB), Ghea Indrawari, Morfem to Tuan Tigabela x Yacko. However, the organizers said that the presence of this big name was not the main focus.

"So they are Co-headliners, because the headliners are young musicians who may have never appeared on any stage," said Wendy.
