Pat Metheny Shows Improvization Power In MoonDial Album

JAKARTA - jazz guitarist Pat Metheny has released his latest album with the title 'Moon Dial'. This album is the third recording using a bariton guitar.

In a video clip uploaded on Instagram, Metheny says 'Moon Dial' is a personal special album.

'Moon Dial is a very special recording for me. The footage is very personal, every second in the recording it is filled with key issues for me about what it means to be a musician in terms of touch, sound, harmony, and melody," Pat Metheny said.

"I don't know how there is something about this instrument (guitar bariton) that makes me really able to focus on a lot of things," he continued.

Compared to the previous two bariton guitar albums, Metheny said, 'Moon Dial' presents more varied recording material.

Some of the works I see are quite common to the improvisors, for example I play the version of 'Here, There and Everywhere', the Beatles song, which in addition to being a beautiful song, also opens up all possibilities in terms of improvisation,' said the 70-year-old guitarist.

"And how to get through these changes, how to modulate it to the bridge and so on, those are the things we really improve."

There are 13 songs on the album Moon Dial. Apart from the cover of 'Here, There and everywhere', Metheny also plays the cover of the song You're Everything' played by Chick Corea with Return To Forever.
