JAKARTA - A talented drummer from Batu Lambang Village, Pasar Manna District, South Bengkulu Regency, Bengkulu Province, Deden Pramana (29) aka Deden Noy said he had been contacted by representatives of the Tama drum instrument company and the Sabian cymbal producer after receiving an offer for a drum set from former Dream Theater band drummer Mike Portnoy.

"There has been contact via messages on Facebook, a man named Renan Sanchez, confessing to be from representatives of the Tama and Sabian musical instrument manufacturers", said Deden in Bengkulu as quoted by Antara, Sunday, March 21.

Previously, the father of two has gone viral on YouTube and Instagram through his act of beating the drums by covering Dream Theater's song Metropolis-Part 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper.

The action of Deden, who recorded his game on YouTube under the channel name "Deden Noy", has even been posted on two of Mike Portnoy's official social media accounts, Instagram and Facebook.

Deden is viral not only because of his skill in beating the drums but also because the drums he uses are made from used goods.

The equipment Deden uses to make drums and cymbals is very simple, such as used gallons of drinking water, pot covers to paint buckets, which he assembles in such a way that they produce sounds very similar to drums and cymbals.

Deden said that since 2006 when he was in junior high school, he had become a Portnoy fan. It all started when a friend gave him the VCD for the band's Dream Theater album.

Since then, Deden said he idolized and made Mike Portnoy a role model in beating the drums, even his admiration for the musician was immortalized by adding the name Portnoy behind the name of his first child, Tama Aditya Portnoy (10).

On March 16, 2021 Mike Portnoy shows a YouTube screenshot showing Deden Noy drumming.

In the caption of the photo on his Instagram, the musician wrote that he got hundreds or even thousands of private messages providing a YouTube link for Deden playing Metropolis-Part 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper with used goods.

"The talent is amazing and I plan to provide a new tool with the support of @officialtamadrums and @sabiancymbals_official ???", wrote Portnoy in the upload.

Deden said he was very grateful for the support of all parties who tried to connect him with Portnoy so that he was promised a drum and cymbal musical instrument which had been his dream for a long time.

Deden, who lives a simple life, only relies on income from selling pulses and cell phone accessories and occasionally becomes the sole reserve player at weddings to meet his family's needs.

As long as COVID-19 hit the world, Deden's work was also affected because the government limited crowds to tackle the pandemic.

In the midst of economic constraints, to fill his spare time and channel his musical talents, Deden found a way to turn used goods into drums and cymbals and then began recording several songs belonging to world band groups, including Dream Theater, which went viral and got the attention of his idol Mike Portnoy.
