JAKARTA - The Recording Academy looks serious when it states its global expansion. The latest news says the Asian version of the Grammy Awards will be held in order to expand their influence.

Launching The Korea Times, Recording Academy will hold an Asian version of the Grammy Awards which will most likely be held in South Korea.

According to unnamed sources, the Recording Academy is still considering South Korea and Japan to hold the award event.

President of Recording Academyatur Panay and CEO Harvey Mason Jr. are said to have visited Korea recently. They discussed with some people in the music and technology industry, as well as city government officials.

Three cities are referred to as likely locations to be selected if the Asian version of the Grammy Awards are held in South Korea, namely Seoul, Incheon, and Hanam in Gyeonggi Province.

Panay and Mason are also said to have met with several company leaders who have played a major role in the South Korean music industry, which includes HYBE, YG Entertainment, Kakao Entertainment, CJ E&M, Naver, and KT.

Most officials from the companies and city government officials mentioned above have also confirmed the meeting with Panay and Mason, but declined to provide more detailed information.

"We can confirm that there was a meeting, but were unable to reveal what was being discussed," said an official at one company.

"Proposing award ceremonies in Korea will'meet each other', as the Grammys want to expand to the Korean and Asian markets, while the Korean entertainment industry will benefit from the well-established reputation of the Grammys."

Until this article was written, the Recording Academy had not made any statements. However, their desire for global expansion has been expressed on many occasions.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2023, Mason said the Recording Academy had traveled globally to strengthen its worldwide presence.

We have gone all over the world to learn and understand what is happening and where we can help or provide services. We will go to various places to try and understand how we can collaborate, how we can be part of their music ecosystem," said Harvey Mason Jr.
