The Weeknd Boycotts The Grammy Award

JAKARTA - The 63rd Grammy Award ceremony will be held in two days. Amidst the enthusiasm of musicians and fans, The Weeknd boycotts the event.

To the New York Times today, Friday, March 12, the singer whose name Abel Tesfaye said, "Because of the secret committee, I will not allow my label to submit my music for the Grammys".

Last year, The Weeknd questioned the nomination process after the album After Hours did not receive a single nomination for the award. He asked for transparency from the Grammys for the nomination selection.

Then, the Blinding Lights singer attributed his reasons to Grammy racism. "If you think, 'Are Grammys racist?' I think the real answer is that at the 61st anniversary of the Grammys, only 10 black artists won the Album of the Year".

The Grammys weren't completely silent. They stated that they continue to improve so that there is no allegation of racism developing in their program.

The Weeknd isn't the only one voicing about this year's Grammys. The rapper Drake even said the Grammys weren't that important. In addition, there are Kanye West, Halsey, Nicki Minaj, and most recently Zayn Malik.
