Michael Sweet Praises Judas Priest For His Guts In Writing Songs About Jesus

JAKARTA - The frontman of the band Christian rock Stryper, Michael Sweet praised Judas Priest for having the courage to write a song about Jesus.

Last week, Sweet, who was born in California but lives in Massachusetts, shared a cover image for Judas Priest's new single, "Crown Of Horns" on Instagram social media and she wrote a message in the accompanying caption.

"This is why @judaspriest has become my favorite metal band of all time. Consistency. Talent. Song. And, they have the courage to write songs about Jesus. It takes guts," wrote Sweet, who is now 60 years old.

I am very proud to be a fan of it.

"Tur Priest and Styper will be ridiculous! Just say it..."

In 2014, Halford, which has been clean of drugs and alcohol since January 1986, praised his confidence in the higher powers that helped him recover.

"I was a different man when I was 20 years old," Halford said while appearing on the "The Jasta Show" podcast owned by the Hatebreed frontman, Jamey Jasta.

"I've been able to look at the world and find out what really is the most important and valuable thing, for me, along with my daily life," he continued.

"When I was clean and aware, it was a big change in my life. And part of my recovery was to have confidence in higher powers. And it worked. It worked, guys. It really was important."

A few years ago, Sweet told Metal Edge magazine that Halford is her all-time favorite metal vocalist.

"He was the biggest influence for me," he explained. "I mean, Rob Halford really turned me into a vocalist. I'm not used to screaming, I'm not used to hitting high notes until I hear Rob."

"And the first song I heard was [COver Judas Priest from Joan Baez, folk song] 'Diamonds And Rust' from [Judass Priest live album Released 979] 'Unleashed In The East' on the radio," he concluded.
