Besides Nirvana And Foo Fighters, This Is Dave Grohl's Music Project Line Up

JAKARTA - Dave Grohl, who doesn't know this name. He is the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter of the rock band Foo Fighters. Recently, the band released their newest album, Medicine At Midnight.

The story of Foo Fighters began in October 1994. At that time, Dave Grohl recorded album-equivalent songs in which he played all the instruments at the Robert Lang Studio in Seattle. He then chose the name "Foo Fighters" to hide his identity and gave a copy of the session tape to his close friends.

After the record attracted record label interest, Dave Grohl signed with Capitol Records, which released the results as the Foo Fighters album in 1995.

Together with Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl has released 10 studio albums, 5 live albums, 2 compilation albums, 6 video albums, 55 music videos, 10 EPs and 56 singles.

David Eric Grohl, thus his full name, was born January 14, 1969. Long before forming Foo Fighters, at the age of 17, he joined the Washington DC-based punk rock band Scream after the band left drummer Kent Stax.

After Scream unexpectedly disbanded, Dave Grohl joined Nirvana, which at that time had no drummer. Nirvana's second album, and the first to feature Dave Grohl, Nevermind was released in 1991.

The album exceeded all expectations and was a worldwide commercial success. Furthermore, Nevermind undermined the superiority of the hair metal era that was at its peak.

Music Projects Beyond Nirvana and Foo Fighters

Apart from Scream, Nirvana and Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl is also a drummer and co-founder of the rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures with Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin). Not only that, he wrote music and performed all the instruments for his short-lived side project Late! and Probot.

Especially for Late !, this project gave birth to an album titled Pocketwatch. A copy of Dave Grohl's rare solo album released in 1992 has been sold on eBay. Containing 10 demo songs, this cassette was made two years after he joined Nirvana.

At the time of writing, the album had 31 bids in the auction with the highest bid amounting to US $ 430. And it happened just two hours before the auction ended.

This album includes a version of the original Nirvana song, Marigold, which features only Dave Grohl's vocals and acoustic guitar. The song, originally titled Color Pictures of a Marigold, was recorded on December 23, 1990 - a few months after Dave Grohl joined Nirvana.

Nirvana recorded their last full-length album, In Utero in 1993 and Dave Grohl decided to include Marigold with the addition of a bass and drums. He returned to executing vocals, guitar and (this time) drums. Krist Novoselic left the bass filling, while Kurt Cobain only added harmony.

The song was finally released only as a b-side, with Milk It to accompany the first single Heart-Shaped Box. But then appeared on the third installment boxset With the Lights Out in 2004 and In Utero 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition (2013).

On July 14, 2006, Dave Grohl played Marigold for the first time on stage when the Foo Fighters performed at the Berkeley Community Theater. He then immortalized it in an acoustic live album titled Skin and Bones (November 2006) which was taken from one of the tour series.

The Gibson ES-335-based guitarist has also recorded songs and toured with Queens of the Stone Age. Together with Dave Grohl, this rock band founded by vocalist and guitarist Josh Homme produced the albums Songs for the Deaf (2002) and ... Like Clockwork (2013).

Dave Grohl was also involved in the albums Tenacious D, Harlingtox AD, Dain Bramage and was a guest musician on Buzz Osbourne's solo album Mike Watt, and played several songs with David Bowie at Bowie's 50th birthday.

The Most Epic Composition Documentary Release

Using his own name, in August 2018 Dave Grohl released the documentary Play, which tells the story of the creation of the most epic composition he has ever made. This documentary film consists of two parts. It highlights Dave Grohl's 23-minute work creation process by playing all seven instruments.

Play, acknowledged Dave Grohl, represents personal challenges faced by all musicians, who are always trying to improve a result.

"Even now, as a 49 year old man, I am still trying to find out (how to improve results)," said Dave Grohl, quoted from NME.

“This isn't something that you are really good at. "You're always chasing the next challenge, and you're always trying to find ways to improve what you've learned," he continued.

Dave Grohl himself established himself as a respected drummer. In 2014, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, alongside former bandmates Kurt Cobain and Nirvana's Krist Novoselic.

In 2010, Dave Grohl was described by Ken Micallef, co-author of Classic Rock Drummers, as one of the most influential rock musicians of the last 20 years.
