Marcell Siahaan Asks No Parties To Prioritize Ego To Solve Royalty Problems

JAKARTA - Marcell Siahaan as the Commissioner of the National Collective Management Institute (LMKN) voiced that all parties should not put forward their egos and consider themselves the most correct when talking about music royalties.

He saw what was voiced by several parties who criticized the system for collecting royalties performing rights by blaming one or two parties would not solve the problem.

"We have to plant the mechanism from now on. Because if we only prioritize ego, who is the most correct, then it will never be finished," said Marcell Siahaan at the LMKN Office, Kuningan, South Jakarta last week.

Especially for several musicians and great songwriters, Marcell asked to be wiser in voicing his opinion. The reason is, not everyone is well socialized regarding the royalties collection and distribution system.

"And we have to think like this, whoever it is with his charm, charisma, with how many followers, he has to start thinking that what he's saying, what he's doing has an impact," Marcell said.

"Maybe make it easy for him, maybe one day he's stuck, just turn off social media, turn off his account and change a new account. But he once thought that his digital footprint could have an impact on other people? " he continued.

Marcell said the conflict that occurred actually caused confusion at the grassroots. He said, there is a possibility that new bands will become afraid when conflicts arise between the band and its former personnel.

With yesterday's conflict, there was not a bit of conflict in the grassroots (roots) that occurred. In this war, the creator and singer. In fear now. If there is a problem in the band, there is one coming out, it keeps banning each other," said Marcell Siahaan.

"Even though it's actually easy. If you want to be easy, when you make a band, you make a contract from scratch, you make a contract, one by one you make a contract. So, later if someone leaves, it's clear who gets the share, who can get the percent. So that later if there is a joke, anything will be easy," he continued.

The LMKN Commissioner for Legal Affairs also saw the commotion between the band and its former personnel recently as something that was not worth showing.

'Primitive for me if that's the case, let alone have to show it like that, who is more important between creators or singers. Don't, just, like a child," concluded Marcell Siahaan.
