5 Mandatory Indonesian Singer Christmas Albums You Know

JAKARTA - Several great Indonesian singers have been recorded as having released or been involved in compiling a special album to celebrate Christmas which is a holiday for Christians.

Glenn Fredly and Ruth Sahanaya once released a special album for Christmas. Meanwhile, several singers such as Agnes Monica, Rio Febrian, Judika, Total Sibarani to Ello were involved in the Christmas song compilation album.

Released in different years, almost all the songs in the album are Christmas songs that are commonly sung, either in Indonesian or English.

Meanwhile, some of the songs that are often sung are Gita Surga Bergema (Hark The Herald Angel Sing), Malam Kudus (Silent Night), and Gloria In Excelsis Deo (Angels We Have Heard On High).

Here are 5 Christmas albums from Indonesian singers:

1. Glenn Fredly - Terang

Terang menjadi album spesial yang dirilis Glenn Fredly untuk merayakan Natal pada tahun 2006. Album ini terdiri dari ten lagu gabungan bahasa Indonesia dan Inggris.

Most of the songs on this album are popular Christmas-themed songs, including White Christmas, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, This Christmas, Go Tell It On The Mountain, and The Christmas Song.

In addition, there are also songs that are commonly sung during Christmas celebrations at the Church, such as Gita Sorga Bergema, From Pulau Dan Benua, and Malam Kudus.

In this album, Glenn slipped his only song called Terang.

Glenn Fredly also invited several names to collaborate, namely Edo Kondologit, Pasto, Red, and Rio Febrian.

2. Ruth Sahanaya - Joyful Christmas

In the same year as the release of Glenn Fredly's Bright album, Ruth Sahanaya released a special Christmas album titled Joyful Christmas.

Joyful Christmas album contains ten songs in which all speak English. The songs are a mixture of popular songs that already exist and songs that are usually sung during worship at the Church.

Carrying the jazz genre, Ruth Sahanaya invited several singers to collaborate, such as Bob Tutupoly, Rio Sidik, Sammy Simorangkir, and Irvan Nat.

A special collaboration occurred in a song called Frosty the Snowman. Ruth Sahanaya involved her two daughters, Nadine Emanuella Waworuntu and Amabel Odelia Waworuntu.

Meanwhile, the other nine songs on this album are Winter Wonderland, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, O Holy Night, Joy to The World/Jingle Bells, Merry Christmas Darling, It's The Most Total Time of The Year, The Christmas Song, and Sleigh Ride.

3. All Artist - Peace with You

The third album on this list was released ahead of Christmas in 2011. With the title Peace with You, this album presents eleven songs and no less than fifteen singers participated.

The singers involved in this album are Agnes Monica, Ari Lasso, Mike Mohede, Ruth Sahanaya, Sammy Simorangkir, Maria Shandi, Judika, Ello, Rio Febrian, Once Mekel, Anda Wardhana, Alosh, Andee, Margareth Siagian, and Vania Larissa.

The album Damai BersamaMu not only contains Christmas songs, but also other Christian spiritual songs.

There are three Christmas songs on this album, namely O Holy Night (Vania Larissa), Silent Night (Agnes Monica), and We Wish You A Merry Christmas (Ari Lasso, Ruth Sahanaya, Once Mekel).

4. 5 Divo - Glory Oh Lord

Moving to 2014, five male Indonesian singers collaborated with one of the fast food companies to produce the Christmas album. With the names 5 Divos, the singers are Rio Febrian, Delon, Mike Mohede, Judika and Sammy Simorangkir.

Unlike the three albums above, this album titled Glory Oh Lord is dominated by new songs composed and sung by Indonesians. There are only three old songs that are arranged again.

Rio Febrian performed the song Kasih, and O Holy Night. Delon brought the medley. Leave the Burden You-He Understands, and What Christmas means. Mike Mohede performed the song God Hears My Prayers, and White Christmas.

Next, Judika performed the song Kasih Father, and Angels We Have Heard On High. Meanwhile, Sammy Simorangkir performed a song called Because of Kita.

Meanwhile, another song entitled Christmas Kasih Terindah was sung by the five singers involved in this album.

5. All Artist - Merry Christmas Indonesia

To celebrate Christmas in 2018, seven Indonesian singers were involved in working on an album titled Merry Christmas Indonesia.

The singers involved are a combination of those in the national music industry such as Glenn Fredly, Total Sibarani, Lea Simanjuntak, Mikha Tambayong, and Mansen Munthe, as well as several Christian spiritual song singers such as Sidney Mohede and Sari Simorangkir.

The noise of ten songs, Glenn Fredly performed his song created by Terang. In addition, Mansen Munthe also performed his own song, Peace in the World.

Furthermore, eight other songs are songs that are commonly sung at Christmas. Wayang Sibarani performed Malam Mulia, Lea Simanjuntak brought From Pulau Dan Benua, and Sunyi Senyap Night.

Sari Simorangkir performed two songs, namely Kudus Night, and O Mungil City of Bethlehem. Meanwhile, Sidney Mohede performed Hai Mari Berhimpun, and Omencur Immanuel.

Meanwhile, Mikha Tambayong, who became the youngest singer on this album, sang a song by Davies Gilbert and William Sandys entitled Noel.
