Geddy Lee Talks About The Discovery Of A Solo Material Demo That Has Not Been Completed

JAKARTA - In a new interview with "Out Of The Box With Jonathan Clarke" Q104.3, Rush bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee talks about how he rediscovered two unfinished demo songs in the late 1990s.

Gone and I Am... You Are was originally written for his solo album in 2000, My Favorite Headache, but was not included in the album. Lee found the other two while sorting out the My Effen' Life archive, his newly released memoir.

"During the writing of this book, My Favorite Headache co-authors discovered the demos we had forgotten," said Geddy as quoted by Blabbermouth.

"And there are two songs. I talked a little about it in the book. One of them was a song called Gone which I wrote right after Neil [Peart's daughter, drummer Rush], Selena [Taylor], died tragically in the car accident [in 1997 at the age of 19,]," Lee continued.

"And when you lose someone, you revive a lot of loss to you others. And I think about how someone is facing someone's sudden disappearance from your life, especially a girl. So I wrote this song with Ben [Mink]."

Lee said Gone was the first song they wrote for the album My Favorite Headache, and they made a demo. Although beautiful, Lee thought the song was too raw and inappropriate to release it in honor of Petart and his condition at the time.

Meanwhile, another song is I Am... You Are which they left because it was a bit incomplete even though most of it had been recorded. This song tells about a relationship.

"And it's about me in the middle of a difficult conversation with my wife, which happened more than once in my life," concluded the musician.
