How Ngayogjazz 2023 Presents Local Wisdom Typical Of Yogyakarta

JAKARTA - The "Ngayogjazz" music festival will be held again in 2023. Dozens of musicians from the jazz genre appear slick wrapped in creativity and modernization with various ethnic nuances.

This annual event is known for prioritizing the unique concepts and wisdom of local values of Yogyakarta. The 2023 "Ngayogjazz" Music Festival which was held in Gancahan Hamlet, Sidomulyo Village, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), on Saturday (18/11), managed to attract the attention of thousands of music lovers from various cities in Indonesia and foreign tourists.

The theme carried out in the "Ngayogjazz" 2023 is "Hangejazzi Airport". "Hangejazzi Airport", taken from Javanese, is "handabeni" which means feeling, participating in responsibility, preserving, preserving and protecting what it has. Meanwhile, "hangejazzi", in this case, are words embedded with the context of collaboration and performances in various forms of jazz nuances.

At the 2023 Ngayogjazz music event, there were four major stages where musicians performed. The stages also use the Javanese vocabulary, namely Panggung Hangayomi (menyomi), Panggung Hanresnani (mencerna), Panggung Hanyengkuyung (supporting), and Panggung Hamengkoni (protecting) Mldspot Stage Bus.

From these four stages, one of the stages that is crowded with spectators, both local and foreign tourists, is the Hamengkoni Stage.

It was on stage that the Mldjazzproject All Stars -- the jazz group that graduated from the Mld Jazz Project -- looked stunning in collaboration with singer Eva Celia. The performances of Mldjazzproject and Eva Celia attracted the attention of the music lovers who were present in Yogyakarta. The Hamengkoni Mldspot Stage Bus stage was crowded with the audience.

They also sang throughout the appearance. Together with Eva Celia -- the daughter of musician Indra Lesmana-Sophia Latjuba -- it was Mldjazzproject All Stars performing seven songs.

On the sidelines of the "Ngayogjazz" 2023 event in Gancahan Hamlet, Sidomulyo Village, the representative of Mldspot, Andrianto W Nuswanto explained that the theme "Ngayogjazz" is in line with his vision and mission, namely consistency in participating in supporting the diversity of jazz music in Indonesia.

"Here, Mldspot introduces jazz as a young, fun, fun and enjoyable music genre for all people. Tonight it can be seen, jazz can be populist and its fans are now many young people," he said.

Some of the songs performed include Morning Coffee, Indah, Praharara Cinta, Fix You (Coldplay), Kala Senja, Electric and legendary musician Chrisye.

With this fresh and unique concept, Mldspot turns a bus into a "stage performance" in an open area complete with musical equipment, thus making interactions with the audience more intimate.

The atmosphere at night seemed even more exciting when the audience turned on their cell lights while waving their hands to accompany the sound of jazz music sung.

"We are very happy to be able to appear, the energy of the people of Yogyakarta and its surroundings does feel warm and fun," said Windy, vocalist of Mldjazzproject, quoted by Antara. Moreover, with the Mld Stage Bus concept, he felt very close to the audience.

He felt the collaboration that night was very special, because the training process was short but could perform optimally to bring entertaining jazz music.

Genre "Marriage"

Eva Celia also appreciated the holding of the Mldspot in the "Ngayogjazz" 2023 event. The enthusiasm of the extraordinary audience made her excited to present her slick appearance, especially this was her first appearance at "Ngayogjazz". The beautiful rural atmosphere further adds to the unique Mldspot Stage Bus concept presented by Mldspot.

Although its name is "Ngayogjazz", a number of performers at this event do not only bring jazz music. Some of the musicians "winned" jazz genres with pop, alternative/indie, rock, to keroncong.

A number of "line-up" musicians who appear in Ngayogjazz are also diverse. They are local musicians who come from various regions in Yogyakarta and surrounding cities, such as Totok Tewel, Petik Cantik Nusantara, Kartabaya, Sinten Remen, Trie Utami, Trenggalek, Jazztilan Ponorogo, Kretek Beats, Etawa.

Then, the FJazzC, the WinterBreeze (Jazz Ngisoringin Semarang), the Barocks x Iksan Cup, the Monday feat Tevy (Solo Jazz Society), the Malang Jazz Ministry, Novan, TheBluemate (Magelang Jazz community), and several others.

In addition, "Ngayogjazz" also presented a number of professional and well-known musicians from abroad, such as PeliPe Jazz Activity, Huaton Dixie, Boteco Quintet, Samy Thiebault. Then, Felipe Cabrera, KOEN the guitar band, Kevin Yosue Quarter, Tom van der Zaal Quartet, and others.

Apart from music and art, one of the things that music lovers and festivals have been waiting for in Ngayogjazz is the Jazz Market. In every "Ngayogjazz" performance, Jazz Market is always an inseparable part.

Various stalls, some of which come from local villagers, present various needs of Ngayogjazz spectators, ranging from snacks in the form of food and drinks that are delicious, knick-knacks and merchandise as souvenirs, and many others.

Since "Ngayogjazz" was held for the first time in 2007, this festival is believed to have its own charm because it is always held in various villages as a show venue. The enthusiasm of visitors who watch and visit this festival is always high from year to year.

History, "Ngayogjazz" is a development of a jazz music festival that has been formed for a long time. Before Ngayogjazz, there was the "Jazz Gayeng" Festival which had been held since 2001. Only six years later, "Ngayogjazz" emerged with a very unique concept.

Ngayogjazz always involves villagers as partners (stakeholders). The goal is to explore villages as arts spaces and also to collaborate on traditional art performances with jazz.
