Brian May Calls Kurt Cobain Giving An Important Heritage To The Guitar World

JAKARTA - While appearing on SiriusXM's "The Howard Stern Show" recently, Queen's Brian May praised Nirvana's frontman Kurt Cobain.

Initially, Brian was asked about his feelings after being named the greatest guitarist of all time by readers of Total Guitar magazine in England.

He then revealed his personal approach in playing guitar by mentioning that what he did was play as he felt and make the guitar his voice.

"I played like I wanted to sing. I'm not the greatest singer in the world. I'm also not the greatest guitarist in the world, but thank you for saying that," Brian said.

"But I can talk to the guitar; I can make him sing; and that's all I did. It went inside."

However, Brian insists that he doesn't think every guitarist should have something to prove. This is where Kurt Cobain's name appears.

"This is not a competition. Kurt Cobain [Nirvana] is a great example. Not much technical stuff there, and he doesn't work hard to be technical, but he gives us a legacy of some of the greatest guitar music of all time," Brian explained.

"So it's not about engineering. It's about what you put into it and what you feel and how that feeling is conveyed in your guitar game."
