Radiohead Takes A Year Off For Its Personnel's Solo Project

JAKARTA - The unfortunate news for Radiohead fans came unexpectedly. Drummer Philip Selway said, Radiohead will be taking music leave this year.

In a statement first issued via NME, Selway said, Radiohead may take a year to take a hiatus from group projects in order to develop each member's project. Even though they claim it only takes one year, in fact they still need discussion when asked if Radiohead will return in 2021.

"There are always conversations going on, but we always have other projects going on," said Selway. He also admitted that this decision made Radiohead personnel far away from each other. But the drummer insisted they would try to reunite.

Radiohead last released the album A Moon Shaped Pool in 2016. This ninth album contains several previously released tracks, some of which are new productions such as Identikit and Ful Stop. The album received positive criticism from various media and music critics. Rolling Stone's Will Hermes said in his writing, this album is Radiohead's most musical and emotional album.

Previously, Radiohead uploaded their entire album on the band's official YouTube channel. They also launched the Radiohead Public Library, which is Radiohead's private 'museum' which contains documentaries of performances, albums, merchandise, and some exclusive writings.

Since the release of their ninth album, Radiohead members have indeed focused more on solo projects. In 2019, vocalist Thom Yorke released a solo album entitled ANIMA along with a short film on Netflix. He was also involved in the soundtrack for the film Motherless Brooklyn.

Meanwhile, guitarist Jonny Greenwood also participated in the Horror Vacui concert as a violinist. Ed O'Brien recently joined an RSPB Let Nature Sing whose mission is to raise awareness of the decline in bird life in the UK. As for Selway, he is currently preparing for his third solo album.

The busyness of each member made Radiohead decide to take a break from his career as a group. So, it seems like Radiohead fans will have to endure at least a year to hear about their new project again.
