Foo Fighters Promise on New Year's Eve: Ready to Return as a Different Band without Taylor Hawkins

JAKARTA - Foo Fighters promised to continue as a "different band" after the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins.

The rock unit, headed by Dave Grohl, discussed their future in sharing a New Year's Eve message last Saturday on social media.

"As we say goodbye to the most difficult and tragic year our band has ever experienced, we are reminded how grateful we are to the people we love and cherish the most, and to those loved ones who were not with us much longer.

"Foo Fighters were formed 27 years ago to represent the healing power of music and survival. And over the past 27 years, our fans have built a worldwide community, a loyal support system that has helped us through our darkest times together.

"A place to share our joys and pains, hopes and fears, and join the chorus of life together through music. Without Taylor, we would never be the band we are today — and without Taylor, we know we would be a band unlike any other." ahead.

Hawkins was found dead in March last year in a hotel room in Colombia, shortly before the Foo Fighters performed at a festival in Bogotá. He is 50 years old.

No cause of death was announced, although a toxicology report showed traces of 10 substances in his body, including opioids, marijuana, and antidepressants.

Investigators did not say whether the drug mix had been a factor in his death.

Hawkins has been the drummer for the Foo Fighters for the last 25 years, taking over from William Goldsmith in 1997.
