JAKARTA - Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives as well as Chairman of the Indonesian Motorcycle Association (IMI) Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) reminded the big motorcycle community that it has an important role in campaigning for driving safety (safety riding) and increasing social activities to help the community. Through various educational activities, social actions, and strengthening safe driving culture, the large motorcycle community can become an agent of effective change in increasing public awareness about driving safety. With a strong spirit of togetherness and commitment, it is hoped that the number of motorcycle accidents can decrease and driving safety in Indonesia can increase significantly.

"In 2024, there was a significant increase in the number of traffic accidents in Indonesia. Data from the Traffic Corps of the Indonesian National Police (Korlantas Polri) recorded that 1,150,000. The accident occurred in the period January to December 2024, where accidents involving motorbikes reached 76.42%. This incident resulted in around 27,000 people dying. In the midst of this situation, the large motorcycle community can contribute significantly to reducing the number of accidents through a planned and structured driving safety campaign," said Bamsoet when receiving the Indonesian Big Motorcycle Management (MBI) in Jakarta, Thursday, February 6.

Present were Deputy Chairperson of MBI Jaya Ashari, Secretary General of MBI Fajar, Chairman of the DKI Jakarta MBI Alwi, Deputy Chairperson of the DKI Jakarta MBI Hagga, Secretary of the DKI Jakarta MBI Viki and Central IMI Communication and Media Dwi Nugroho.

Bamsoet explained that the main cause of traffic accidents in Indonesia is still dominated by driver negligence. For example, driving is sleepy, drunk, or not concentrating. In addition, traffic accidents are caused by drivers violating traffic signs, going against the flow, exceeding speed, to lack of understanding of driving safety.

"The large motor community is not just a place for motorcycle enthusiasts, but can also function as an agent of change in safe driving culture. Through various activities, such as socialization, seminars, and workshops that involve various levels of society, the large motorcycle community can disseminate information and knowledge about driving safety," said Bamsoet.

Bamsoet also encouraged the large motorcycle community to continue to hold live driving safety campaigns in various strategic locations. This action can involve cooperation with government agencies, such as the National Police and the Department of Transportation, to provide direct counseling to the public.

"A study conducted by Gadjah Mada University in 2023 shows that participation in driving safety training can reduce the risk of accidents by 30%. This shows that the large motorcycle community can contribute significantly to reducing the number of accidents by actively involving its members in various driving safety activities," concluded Bamsoet.
