JAKARTA - PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) presents improvements for the New GR Yaris as input provided from its use in motorsport. The improvement comes from improving driving quality from the handling, stability, and comfort sides.

The hot hatch, which was developed from GAZOO Racing (GR) participation in the world rally, applied several touches through changes to the steering wheel design, tuning on the Electric Power Steering (EPS) and handbrake, as well as adding seat/steer heater features.

Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), Bansar Maduma, said the GR Yaris was born through the vision of presenting ever-better motorsports-bred cars developed using the reverse engineering method. GR built a rally vehicle that is suitable for motorsport needs and then further adapted for the mass production version so that it can still be used every day.

"In line with the spirit of continuous improvement, this car has again received several touches whose input comes from experience in the racing world in various parts of the world," said Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), Bansar Maduma.

The first improvement is the GR Exclusive New Steering Wheel Design. Certain situations in the race require maintaining a constant grip on the steering wheel without changing the position of the hand and touching the control buttons.

GR makes a steering wheel with a smaller diameter for better hand movement, with a palm grip design that fits and is comfortable when turned. The overhaul makes it easier to control the car and increases confidence behind the wheel.

Experience from the World Rally Championship (WRC) events held in various parts of the world, contributed to the change by placing the parking brake lever closer to the steering wheel where the position is also more upright so that hand movements are faster and more agile. Meanwhile, the additional combination of heating on the steering wheel and bench adds driver comfort.

The improvement of Electric Power Steering (EPS) is carried out through modifications to certain software and parts to expand the EPS detection range so that it can still function optimally even if it experiences heavy working pressure. Once driven normally on the highway, the EPS response remains smooth and makes it easier for the driver to maneuver.

Holding an important role in maintaining the performance and handling of the car, the new tires are developed through intensive testing to maintain their performance. The revision of the tire tread pattern, internal structure, and new rubber components significantly improve control while driving, providing stable performance, both on the highway and on the race track.

Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), Hiroyuki Oide, revealed that the GR Yaris had again received several improvements that made it more fun to drive. Input from various parties, both racers and GR Yaris enthusiasts, opened up opportunities for GR to improve stability and handling to be more agile and able to follow the driver's will.

"This increase is in line with the achievements of GR Yaris Rally2 which dominated the opening series of the sprint rally and rally series this year, as well as spreading the joy and excitement of GR to more people," said Hiroyuki Oide.
