JAKARTA - Driving a car with a driver who is not yet proficient in controlling the brake pedal often makes the journey uncomfortable. The shock caused by sudden or unstable braking often makes the passenger's head sway. Understanding this problem, Tesla launched a smart software-based solution.

Through the 2026.8 Software Update, Tesla introduced a feature called "Comfort Braking". This feature is designed specifically to help drivers get a more linear and smooth braking sensation, regardless of how stiff the driver's feet are on the pedal.

In its statement, as reported by Autoblog, Monday, March 16, Tesla said that this feature will provide a smoother sensation when the vehicle will stop completely in routine braking. Technically, this system works by modulating the pedal input.

If analogized, the way it works is similar to a very sophisticated Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). Comfort Braking regulates the brake pressure so that deceleration (speed reduction) occurs gradually and smoothly, even if the driver steps on the pedal with less precision.

In electric cars (EV) such as Tesla, the braking system is indeed more complex because it involves Regenerative Braking (converting kinetic energy into electricity) and traditional mechanical brakes. This feature aligns the transition of the two through the brake-by-wire system so that passengers do not feel disturbing shocks.

For now, the Comfort Braking feature is not available for all Tesla lines. This feature is exclusively available for the latest Tesla Model Y (Project Juniper) with model year 2026 and above.

Juniper Model Y owners will get this feature automatically via an Over-the-Air (OTA) update. So far, Tesla has not given an official confirmation when this feature will be downgraded to older models or other product lines such as the Model 3 or Model S.
