JAKARTA - Bugatti is once again opening the pages of their glory days with a one-of-a-kind work, namely the FKP Hommage. This unique hypercar is not just a retro design project, but a form of tribute to an important figure behind the revival of modern Bugatti.

Reported by Caranddriver, Friday, January 23, this car is also a farewell to the W-16 engine that has been the heart of the French brand's performance for the past two decades. If you look at its history, Bugatti was once a symbol of automotive peak in the 1920s to 1930s.

At that time, it dominated grand prix racing with sports cars such as the Type 35, as well as setting the standard for luxury with the Type 41 Royale. However, the company founded by Ettore Bugatti went bankrupt after World War II.

Bugatti tried to rise in the early 1990s, before finally returning to the top when it was under the supervision of the Volkswagen Group in the early 2000s, an era that gave birth to the legendary icon, the Veyron.

Now, two decades after the appearance of the Veyron that changed the map of the hypercar industry, Bugatti chose to celebrate it with the exclusive FKP Hommage model. The name FKP on this hypercar is an abbreviation of Ferdinand Karl Piƫch, a central figure of the Volkswagen Group in the 1990s and 2000s.

He is known as the brain behind the big projects that make Bugatti back to the top of the world's performance, including presenting the W-16-engined Veyron which is both brutal and luxurious. In appearance, the FKP Hommage is very identical to the Veyron.

Technically, however, this car is actually based on its successor, the Chiron, which debuted in 2016. The FKP Hommage is said to be the last tribute to the quad-turbo W-16 engine, an engine that has become the identity of modern Bugatti and will soon be replaced by a new powertrain.

Bugatti is known to enter a new phase through the Tourbillon, which carries a hybrid V-16 powertrain designed by Cosworth. This means that the W-16, which has been the symbol of Bugatti's supremacy, will soon become a story of the past.

Interestingly, the FKP Hommage uses the W-16 engine version of the Chiron Super Sport with a power output of 1,578 hp. The engine confirms that this car is not just a nostalgic display, but still carries the typical Bugatti performance.

In terms of design, the FKP Hommage comes with a classic Bugatti style through a combination of two colors. The black carbon fiber rear wraps around the red-colored side of the car.

The iconic horseshoe grille remains the center of attention, but this time it is made from a solid aluminum block, giving a three-dimensional effect that feels more exclusive than the standard Veyron snout. The headlights are slim on both sides, while the front bumper carries a simple oval air hole that reinforces the clean impression typical of Bugatti's early design.

On the roof, Bugatti also attached two additional channels finished in silver, reminiscent of Veyron details. The wheels adopt the typical Veyron chrome style, with 20-inch front and 21-inch rear sizes, paired with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

Meanwhile, the back features two circular light elements that clearly mimic the outer lines of the original Veyron lights. Entering the interior, the retro aura is immediately felt because it is wrapped in soft brown leather and looks very different from the Chiron interior.

The Chiron's flat-bottom steering wheel is replaced with an elegant round steering wheel, while the center console gets a unique touch with trim like shiny silver scales. The silver elements in the cabin are made from solid aluminum blocks, in line with the concept of a front grille that is both solid and exclusive.

On top of the center console, Bugatti placed the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon, an octagonal watch that is a symbol of luxury as well as a statement that this car is a high-value work of art. Despite its classic feel, modern touches are still present through the digital instrument panel.

Meanwhile, the seats and door panels are wrapped in a special fabric with a diamond pattern and jagged lines, adding a unique character to the cabin. FKP Hommage is the second product from Solitaire, Bugatti's newest division which specifically makes full-order cars with very limited production, a maximum of two vehicles per year.

This car follows in the footsteps of the Brouillard, which was introduced last fall. As for the price, Bugatti has not announced an official figure, but it is almost certain that this hypercar will be priced very expensive, comparable to its status as a retro masterpiece and the last tribute to the W-16 engine.
