Hyundai Motor Company is reportedly preparing its newest affordable electric car for the European market, most likely to be named Ioniq 2.

The car was reportedly Autocar, Tuesday, August 12, designed to be a direct competitor for Renault 4, which recently launched, with the aim of strengthening Hyundai's position in the European market and pursuing the successful sale of his brother, Kia.

With a size similar to the petrol-engined Bayon model, Ioniq 2 will fill an important gap in Hyundai's current lineup of electric vehicles (EV), namely between Inster and Kona Electric. The presence of this car marks Hyundai's push to reach more buyers in the fast-growing electric hatchback segment. The price of Ioniq 2 is expected to be in the range of 25,000 pounds, equivalent to Rp548 million.

Based on information from Autocar, this car will be introduced at the Munich Motor Show next month and is targeted to go on sale in the third quarter of 2026. Ioniq 2 was developed by twins with Kia EV2 which will also be coming soon.

"We are deeply involved in electrifying our line of products and to increase the mix of our electric vehicles in the coming years," said European Hyundai boss Xavier Martinet.

From the photos circulating, Ioniq 2 will come as a hatchback with a tilted roof and a rather high position. The front design is expected to adopt an aggressive "technical" display with a sleek LED light, similar to his brother, Ioniq 6.

In the interior, Ioniq 2 cabin is said to be more focused on technology. This car will present "significant changes" in terms of usefulness, with the display of integrated instruments and infotainment systems stretching almost half the width of the dashboard.

Just like almost all EVs under the Hyundai Motor Group (Hyundai, Kia, Genesis), Ioniq 2 will be built on the E-GMP platform. This means this car will likely have similar settings to the slightly larger Kia EV3.

There are two available battery options, namely 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh, which are capable of offering a distance of about 430 km and 599 km, respectively. All variants will be powered by a single electric motor on the front wheel which produces 201 bhp of power.
