Mercedes-Benz G-Class Electric Version Is Low In Interest, Only Sold This Way In April

JAKARTA - Mercedes-Benz launched an electric version of G-Wagon, the G580 last year while strengthening brand commitments in environmentally friendly vehicles.

Even though this is a purely electric version, G580 still maintains the identity of G-Wagon, which is reliable to walk inside and outside urban areas with iconic brain design. Despite the appeal he offers, this tough car is actually empty of interest.

Reporting from InsideEVs forwarding information from German media Handelsblatt, Wednesday, June 4, an internal company source said the car was said to have failed sales of Mercedes-Benz.

The source added that the G580 only managed to sell 1,450 units in April or lower than the ICE engine version of 9,700 units in the same period.

Despite this, the G580 made a positive contribution to the combined sales of G-Wagon which it said broke records in the fourth quarter of last year and increased 18 percent so far in 2025.

"G-Class reached its best sales quarter in Q4 2024 and continued its strong sales performance in the first quarter of 2025 with sales up 18 percent compared to last year. Mercedes-Benz is ready for all market scenarios," said Global Communication Compact Cars Manager Midsize Cars, G-Class, Markus Nast in his clarification quoted from Motor1.

Mercedes-Benz G580 builds on a skeletal chassis like the recently updated W465 G-Class, but with some revisions to accommodate its electric powertrain.

This tough-designed car has a range of 473 km in WLTP count, thanks to the presence of a lithium-ion battery with an energy capacity of 116 kWh.

The electric motorbike embedded in this one car produces 145 cellphones with a total of 580 cellphones and a torque of 1,164 Nm. Thus, the G580 can run 0-100 km/hour in just 4.7 seconds, and the highest speed is limited to 180 km/hour.

In several markets such as the UK, the Mercedes-Benz G580 is sold for a price starting from 180,860 pounds, equivalent to Rp3.9 billion.

This car also landed on the Indonesian market earlier this year at a price of IDR 5.48 billion Off The Road Jakarta.
