JAKARTA - Honda will soon launch its first electric car in Australia, e:Ny1. This news follows the certainty of the launch of the model in New Zealand in May this year.

The manufacturer with the 'H logo is also confirmed that it will bring the Prelude model to Kiwi Country in the second half of 2026 after its debut in the United States (US) and Europe which will take place later this year.

However, one of Australia's Honda spokespersons was reluctant to comment further on the electrification model in Australia.

"Although we are excited to see Honda's global developments in the EV sector, we cannot provide further details about the Prelude and e:Ny1 introduced to today's Australian market," a Honda Australia spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, Vice President Honda Australia and Director of Honda New Zealand, rapid McMahon said it was trying to introduce its first electric vehicle and made sure it would arrive before 2028.

"When will EV Honda come to Australia? I think we talked about medium-term plans which means they will arrive early before 2028," McMahon said.

Cars that also use the names e:N1 in some of these markets, have previously been present in areas such as Europe, China, and Southeast Asia covering Thailand.

This model, referred to as the electric version of HR-V, was also confirmed to launch in Indonesia at the beginning of this year by PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) after being exhibited at the 2024 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).

The manufacturer considers that Honda e:N1 is very suitable for various regions in Indonesia with various terrains. Even though it has the same design language as HR-V, e:N1 has a more futuristic profile with a closed Grill adorning the front.

Honda claims that e:N1 has a distance of up to 500 km in one charge originating from a 68.8 kWh battery. This car has a fast-charging capability of up to 50 minutes to charge to 80 percent.
