Nio Will Bring Onvo L60 Model To England, Ready To Compete With Tesla Model Y

JAKARTA - The European automotive industry is enlivened by a number of Chinese brands. Now, Nio is reportedly going to bring its newest EV brand at affordable prices, namely Onvo next year.

The brand is said to be starting the launch of its first model for the blue continent market, namely L60. This car has a distinctive coup SUV design and will soon be marketed in the UK.

Launching from Autocar, Friday, December 20, the brand explained that Onvo was brought in for the British market first because this country did not implement an import tariff policy for Chinese-made electric vehicles (EVs).

Meanwhile, the policy currently implemented by the European Union (EU) is an obstacle for Onvo to set its feet wider on the blue continent. Currently, Nio electric vehicles are subject to an import rate of 31 percent, an increase of 10 percent compared to 2023.

In addition, the manufacturer also confirmed that it will start exporting Onvo cars to the European market when production reaches 30,000 units per month. This means that it is estimated that the expansion will begin in March 2025.

Nio's sub-brand will market L60 which has an SUV-coupe style. It is hoped that this car will compete with Tesla Model Y at a more affordable price. It is likely that this car will be offered worth 40,000 in the UK

The L60 model is expected to be a suitable option for family consumers who want a low premium segment car, but with interior space, safety, and high-end practicality.

The brand claims the model has an electrical architecture 900V which has ultra-fast charging capabilities with three battery options from BYD, which offers a distance of 553 km, 730 km, and 997 km according to CLTC.

News of Onvo's expansion outside China comes just days before Nio launched its first model of its new EV brand, Firefly, designed as a small premium EV manufacturer focused on the global market.
