BYD Launches Hybrid Shark Pickup For Brazilian Market, Strong Challenger Toyota Hilux And Ford Ranger

JAKARTA - BYD is expanding its lineup by launching the Shark hybrid pickup for the Brazilian market, as well as expanding its global expansion.

Quoting from the CNevpost page, Saturday, October 26, 2024, the Chinese brand has surpassed 60,000 sales of electric vehicles (EVs) in Brazil this year. This proves the company's position in promoting sustainable mobility in the country.

"ByD Shark will help BYD enter the pickup truck market in Brazil deliver high quality and superior performance for consumers," said Brazil's Layd Vice President, Alexandre Baldy.

Previously, BYD launched Shark's pickup in Mexico on May 14, 2024, a rare opportunity for BYD to make a new model debut in overseas markets. They then launched the model in Panama late last month.

In specifications, BYD Shark is based on the DMO BYD platform, with O means off-road and DM for dual mode.

This pickup is 5.457 mm long, 1,971 mm wide, and 1,925 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,260 mm.

The pickup is powered by a double electric motor, the front motor produces 170 kW of power and 310 Nm of torque, and the rear motor produces 150 kW of power and 340 Nm of torque.

BYD Shark's Powertrain produces more than 430 stances and can run from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds with a top speed of 160 km/hour.

Powered by a Blade battery with a capacity of 29.58 kWh and with a NEDC battery range of 100 kilometers and a combined range of 840 kilometers of NEDC.

Shark is the sixth BYD model launched in Brazil this year and the 12th in the South American country.

Before Shark, BYD launched Yuan Up in Brazil last month, where the model was renamed Yuan Pro.

Regarding the price, this one model is priced at 379,800 Brazilian reals or around Rp1 billion, as strong challengers to Toyota Hilux and the Ford Ranger.
