JAKARTA - BMW announced that it will produce a limited number of Skytop concepts on display last May. Only 50 units of this two-passenger roadster will be produced.

This means that with this limited production, Skytop has sold out as expected by BMW CEO M Frank van Meel during its release at the Villa d'Este Concorso d'Eleganza event.

"This can be produced, whether anyone is interested in ordering it. I think it is quite high and will be realized in the form of a purchase order," said BMW M CEO Frank van Meel, last May.

There was no official announcement about the price per unit but when the concept was displayed, the price was reported to be around USD 542,000 (equivalent to IDR 8.4 billion).

Skytop will be produced without change from its concept and utilize 617 dk of power from a twin-turbo V-8 engine based on the M8 Competition convertible.

Launching Car & Driver, October 15, the concept design will be implemented to production with minimal changes. The sharp front is emphasized by a thin LED headlights, while sharp curves adorn the body side. The targa-style roof is powered by a roll bar wrapped in the skin, and two roof panels, also coated with skin, can be removed with hands and stored in the baggage compartment.

The painted Silver Floating Sundown color with the hands of the concept is also brought to production, and it looks like it will be the only color offered for this limited edition of the vehicle. The Skytop will also have the hallmark of the presence of a "spine" that stretches along the engine hood and reappears in the cover of the rear deck of the aluminum rod. Meanwhile, the door can be opened through a small wing extending upward from the silver trim window.

Meanwhile, the interior is coated with brown skin. The dentist has an elegant crystal display, and the cabin is equipped with an audio system Bowers & Wilkins. Under the engine hood, there is a 4.4-liter V-8 twin-turbocharged engine that transmits power to all four wheels via an automatic transmission of eight speeds. BMW claims Skytop has acceleration from 0 to 100 km/hour in 3.3 seconds.
