JAKARTA - The Supreme Leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, is rumored to be using the Maung MV3 Pope car made by PT Pindad during the Grand Mass which will be attended by around 90 thousand people at Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta.

Maung himself is a tactical vehicle initiated by the Minister of Defense (Menhan) as well as the elected President for the 2024-2029 period, Prabowo Subianto and has been specially modified to accommodate Pope Francis' mobility needs.

President Director of PT Pindad Abraham, revealed that this assignment is an honor for the company, because it is believed to support Grand Mass activities at GBK.

"Thank you to the Vatican and its religious visit committee in Indonesia for trusting the Maung MV3 produced by PT Pindad to be adjusted to Pope Mobile used by the Pope at the Grand Mass at GBK. It is an honor and pride for us to be directly involved in supporting the operational vehicles of Catholic leaders around the world as well as interfaith leaders who actively call for peace," he said, in his official statement, Thursday, September 5.

Of course, not a few are curious about Maung MV3. Yes, this car comes in white with the Maung Pindad logo on the front facia section, and is equipped with the Vatican flag and seal and the "SCV1" license plate which stands for the 'Latin Civitatis Vaticanae Status' ( Vatican City Country).

This third-generation car has many advantages, as claimed by its body to be tough and can maneuver in various extreme terrains. To support mobility later at the event, this model has been modified.

The modifications and features added to Pope Mobile's Maung MVP3 include the addition of folding ladder features to access the stage equipped with the main seat at the back of the vehicle, the sunroof in the driver's cabin, the rear step for the Pope's guard, the roof protection of rain anticipation, and the back seat that can be folded for the Pope's assistant.

At heart, Maung MV3 packs a 2,200 cc diesel turbo engine, capable of traveling at a safe speed of 100 km/hour and has a distance of up to 500 km. Maung Tangguh's MV3 used is a variant with an open roof, can transport 4 personnel. This vehicle is also available with another variant, namely Maung MV3 Command which is equipped with a Hardtop roof, and Maung MV3 Explore equipped with a Soft Top roof.

Previously, Pope Francis used Toyota Zenix to visit several places in Jakarta. Pope Francis' visit to Indonesia is the third time for a whale. Previously, Pope Santo Paulus VI visited December 3-4, 1970, followed by Pope St. John Paul II on October 9-14 1989.
