JAKARTA - The news of the launch of the Chery Omoda E5 in Malaysia has finally come to certainty. Previously, it was only mentioned that it would occur in the first quarter, but now Chery has confirmed that the launch will take place in March 2024.

This assurance was reported by Paultan, Tuesday, December 2. In addition, the Chery Omoda E5 will also appear in the Chery Eco Run on January 7 next.

With the official launch in March, this car will first launch in Indonesia, where its debut will take place at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) in February 2024.

However, it should be noted that the specifications of the models that will be present in Malaysia and Indonesia are slightly different. This is due to the fact that for the Indonesian market, this car will be assembled locally, while for Malaysia, the Chery Omoda E5 will be imported completely from China.

In detail, the specifications of the Chinese version show that this car will use an iron lithium battery phosphate of 61 kWh, with a range of up to 430 km according to WLTP calculations. The front electric motor with a power of 150 kW and a torque of 340 Nm will be powered by this LFP battery, allowing this car to reach a speed of 0-100 km/hour within 7.6 seconds.

For charging, the Chery Omoda E5 will use a maximum AC power of 9.9 kW and DC power of up to 80 kW. Chery claims that the charging process from 30 to 80 percent can be carried out within 30 minutes using a compatible DC fast charger.

Another interesting feature is the vehicle-to-load (V2L) system, which can generate up to 3.3 kW of power to power electrical equipment and accessories. Unfortunately, this feature will not be available for the Indonesian market.

Although the price for the Malaysian market has not been announced, it is estimated that the price will be slightly higher than the version with the burning engine which is currently being sold starting from 108,000 ringgit or around Rp336 million.
