This Fast Ferrari Racing Car Will Be Auctioned, Estimated To Be Sold For More Than IDR 700 Billion

JAKARTA - RM Sotheby, the UK's leading auction house, recently announced its intention to auction off a Ferrari 250 GTO, a very rare race car. It is predicted that this car will break previous records, which reached an extraordinary figure of 48.4 million US dollars (approximately IDR 767.1 billion) in 2018.

This car has an extraordinary racing history, recording some impressive achievements for the famous manufacturer with the 'Pinkrak Horse' logo. With the chassis number 3765, the car won the legendary Nurburgring 1,000 km race in 1962, occupying the title in its class and second place overall, with Mike Parkes and Willy Mairesse as drivers in control of the steering.

Furthermore, this car was modified to compete in the 24 Hours Le Mans race, with an upgraded engine and a number of changes in order to improve performance at the De La Sarthe circuit, France. Mike Parkes and Lorenzo Bandini are factory riders who are responsible when this car competes in the event. Unfortunately, the car experienced excessive heat problems on its engine, which forced the team to withdraw early.

According to a report by Motor1, Monday, October 23, this car has taken part in a number of competitions with a large 4.0 liter V12 engine, according to the 1962 competition rules. However, then the Italian manufacturer replaced it with a 3.0 liter V12 unit, before finally being sold to the private team, and the engine is still maintained under the hood of the car to date.

After moving into ownership, the car has finally arrived in the United States and has been owned by a man in Ohio since 1985. Later, the car was used in several vintage car races and also appeared in a number of events, including an award event at Amelia Island Concourses d'Elegance in 2011. The owner last decided to auction off this sports car.

This is one of only 34 Ferrari GTO units ever produced in 1962. For the auction winners, they will get this historic car complete with factory records, including documents reviewing the preparations for this car for the Nurburgring and Le Mans competitions.

RM Sotheby will begin the car auction process on November 13, 2023.
