Volkswagen ID.7 Starts Production: Electric Sedan With Sophisticated Features

JAKARTA - After being introduced in April, Volkswagen (VW) ID.7 has officially started its production period at the Emden plant, Germany. This electric sedan will share the assembly with ID.4.

The production process began symbolically, and VW has received several orders in Germany. It is likely that the first shipment will take place in the fall.

In addition to Germany, VW ID.7 will also enter the North American market in 2024. The sedan will be sold on the Chinese market and produced locally at a joint venture between FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC Volkswagen, as reported by InsideEV on Monday, August 21.

VW ID.7 is one of the newest models in the lineup of purely manufacturerial electric vehicles, known as "ID." and became one of the leading products.

This electric-powered sedan has a fairly wide dimension, with a length of 4,961 mm, a width of 1,862 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,966 mm.

In it, the ID.7 is equipped with augmented reality head-up technology that simplifies instrument clusters by displaying important information such as driving speed and other warnings. This technology also provides information about road lanes, distances, and speed limits. Drivers can set the information they want to be displayed on the HUD through steering control.

The 15-inch infotainment system is also installed in the middle of the dashboard. This touch screen is used to regulate the temperature in the cabin and the volume of vehicle audio.

VW also installs other advanced technologies in ID.7, including an air conditioning system that can be arranged via voice commands, so that the temperature in the cabin can be adjusted to the user's wishes.

In addition, VW ID.7 offers other advanced features, such as front seats that can be regulated in 14 directions, climatetronic systems, massages with the addition of two pads on the pelvis and spine, as well as a panoramic sunroof.

VW offers two variants of the ID.7 model, namely Pro and Pro S, both with 282 dk of power. However, both have different battery capacities.

The Pro variant is equipped with a battery with a capacity of 82 kWh, capable of traveling a distance of up to 615 km according to the WLTP range. This is supported by 170 kW of DC charging.

Meanwhile, the Pro S variant is equipped with a battery with a capacity of 91 kWh, which can produce a distance of up to 700 km with DC fast charging of 200 kW.

Although initially only available with rear wheels driving, it is possible that VW ID.7 will be produced in a driving version of all wheels known as "GTX" in Europe.

The price for VW Passat's siblings is estimated at around 55,000 euros or around Rp920.1 million. VW ID.7 is expected to be a competitor to the Mercedes-Benz EQE Sedan.
