Fachrul Razi Reveals How To Prevent Corruption At The Ministry Of Religion In Today's History, October 29, 2019

Previously, the Ministry of Religion's image was tarnished because its high-ranking officials were caught practicing corruption in organizing the hajj. This condition makes people's trust fall at the lowest level. The minister may change, but the image of corruption is difficult for the Ministry of Religion to improve.

The Ministry of Religion's great implementation of Hajj in Indonesia cannot be underestimated. The Ministry of Religion has the authority as a regulator and operator for organizing Hajj. This condition makes the Ministry of Religion have to manage a lot of money.

The money reaches Rp70 trillion every year plus interest. This condition made Suryadharma Ali challenged to organize it. The Minister of Religion in the 2009-2014 era believes that he and his staff can fix the affairs of organizing the hajj. Among other things, from the affairs of adding officers to the pilgrimage.

Suryadharma also claimed that the implementation of the Hajj at that time had experienced a significant increase. However, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) sees it different. The KPK actually sniffed out the practice of corruption in organizing the hajj under the power of Suryadharma.

The KPK considers Suryadharma to be involved in determining the hajj organizers (PPIH), the appointment of a companion officer amirul hajj, accommodation, and utilizing the remaining hajj quota in the 2010-2013 hajj.

As a result, Suryadharma became a suspect on May 22, 2014. He was later proven to have harmed the state and used ministerial operational funds for personal gain. He was sentenced to six years in prison and increased to 10 years in the follow-up legal process.

This condition made the image of the Ministry of Religion damaged. The Ministry of Religion was once considered an institution close to religion far from corruption. However, the reality said otherwise. Even though Suryadharma's position was replaced by Lukman Hakim Saifuddin. The change is considered to be able to change the image of the Ministry of Religion.
