JAKARTA - There is something unique about the 2021 Batik Fashion Show which combines batik with Hanbok, traditional South Korean clothing in a fashion show held by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea for the Republic of Indonesia and the Indonesian Korean Cultural Center (KCCI).

The fashion show, which aims to promote Korean-Indonesian cultural exchange by introducing and combining traditional clothing from the two countries, showcases the beauty of batik and hanbok through stage performances enlivened by professional models.

Fashion shows were held simultaneously in Korea and Jakarta. The stage for the fashion show has been set up at Chojeong Palace, the king's resting place located in the city of Cheongju, Republic of Korea. There, traditional Hanbok and Hanbok Batik collaborations designed by Hanbok designer Lee Hyo-jae were demonstrated.

At the same time, Batik and the collaboration of Kebaya Hanbok designed by Indonesian batik designer Novita Yunus were exhibited in Jakarta using the virtual backdrop of the Chojeong palace.

In this fashion show, Ambassador Park Tae-sung appeared in Hanbok. Not only that, a series of Indonesian figures such as the Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil, Chairman of the Indonesian Batik Foundation Yanti Airlangga, Representatives of the Indonesian House of Representatives Meutya Hafid and Desy Ratnasari, singer Rossa, and the chairman of the Korean Association for Indonesia Park Jae-han also participated as models of honor.

The Hanbok and Batik Fashion Show are fully supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, as well as the Korean Design and Craft Culture Promotion Agency.

Quoted from ANTARA, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Airlangga Hartarto hopes that today's fashion show will also encourage people from our two countries to collaborate more in the creative industry sector.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Park Tae-sung as the organizer of this event emphasized, “Hanbok and Batik are cultural heritage and symbols that symbolize Korea and Indonesia. Through this Hanbok and Batik collaboration event, the beauty of the two clothes will unite on stage."

"I hope this Hanbok-Batik Fashion Show brings the two people closer to become special friends like siblings through increasing understanding of Korean and Indonesian cultures, and more intensive cultural exchange activities," he concluded.
