JAKARTA - After being forced to cancel his world tour and postpone his highly anticipated album, Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame band, Bon Jovi announced that they will be releasing a full album titled 2020 on October 2 via Island Records. The band has also just released a new single, Do What You Can, on Wednesday.
Originally set to arrive on May 15, 2020 is a complete album with songwriting depth. The title also relates to the many events that have occurred this year.
Together with all Americans, Jon Bon Jovi finds himself unexpectedly experiencing a world-changing COVID-19 pandemic, followed quickly by the events of George Floyd's death and the national movement for racial equality. And last but not least, the year of the United States presidential election.
Jon realized there was much more to say about 2020. Writing from a home studio, two new songs were born: American Reckoning and Do What You Can. Both cover the events above and make this album a complete work.
"I witness history," said Jon Bon Jovi. "I believe the greatest gift of an artist is the ability to use their voice to speak to the problems that move us."
Renowned for his philanthropic endeavors, Jon spent the first days and weeks of his quarantine helping to feed the needy at JBJ Soul Kitchen Community Restaurant in Red Bank, New Jersey. Calling himself the restaurant's "hall-of-fame dishwasher," Jon was immortalized by his wife Dorothea in a photo, which was later posted to social media with the caption "If You Can't Do What You Do… Do What You Can."

The songwriter's mind immediately sprang into action and a complete song was composed the following day. In the spirit of togetherness that embodies the early days of quarantine, instead of releasing a complete song, Jon asked fans to "write their verse part" and tell their story.
Jon sang the first verse and chorus and continued to receive thousands of fan-created verses, both heartbreaking and heartwarming, in a flood of responses at the band's social events with the hashtag #DoWhatYouCan.
The final version of Do What You Can, written by Jon Bon Jovi, was played in acoustic format for the first time at the Jersey4Jersey charity special. The event raised $ 6 million which was used to help hard-hit states during the pandemic. In the following weeks, the entire Bon Jovi personnel were able to record another song in the studio and add it to the upcoming album.
