JAKARTA - The Ministry of Defense has stopped basic military training (latsarmil) to the Indonesian Development Mover (SPPI) candidates for managers or managers of the Red and White Village/Neighborhood Cooperative (KDKMP) and the Red and White Fishermen Cooperative (KNMP).
"The Ministry of Defense is adjusting the approach to activities. The terminology and implementation of current activities are directed to be National Defense and Managerial Training, not Latsarmil anymore," said the Head of the Defense Information Bureau of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, June 29.
The change was made after the Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin evaluated the learning system, after the incident of five latsarmil participants died.
With this evaluation, Rico ensures that physical activities and training related to military training will be reduced.
"With this adjustment, military tactical and technical activities are reduced, including shooting activities which are no longer part of the current exercise," said Rico.
"The focus of the activities is directed at the formation of discipline, character, leadership, cooperation, responsibility, national insight, and the managerial readiness of participants as prospective cooperative managers," he said.
According to Rico, the Ministry of Defense will also pay attention to the health condition of the participants to ensure that the education process for prospective cooperative managers can run safely and orderly.
It is known that Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin thoroughly evaluated the basic military training program (latsarmil) for prospective managers of the Red and White Cooperative.
"At the direction of the Minister of Defense, the organizers have carried out a thorough evaluation of the health aspect," said the Head of the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) of the Ministry of Defense, Major General TNI Ketut Gede Wetan Pastia at a press conference at the Ministry of Defense's office, Central Jakarta, Saturday (27/6).
According to Ketut, a thorough health examination needs to be carried out to find out the physical condition of the participants.
After the health condition of the participants is known, each TNI unit that is the coach of the latsarmil must adjust the portion of physical exercise according to the condition of the participants.
In terms of handling, the Ministry of Defense also asked that medical treatment for sick participants could be done quickly and maximally.
Not only evaluating health issues, Ketut said Sjafrie asked for an evaluation to be made in terms of providing material during education.
"Activities are also directed to be more adaptive, educational, and pay attention to the psychological condition of participants through learning methods that build a spirit of cooperation, problem solving, and a more joyful atmosphere," he said.
Thus, participants will not lose the essence of latsarmil education which emphasizes the value of discipline and building a leadership spirit.
