JAKARTA - The Mario Bros video game will be made in widescreen format. Thursday, September 23, United States time, the production house of Illumination and Nintendo announced a lineup of voice actors for the Super Mario Bros. film.
Actor Chris Pratt will play the main character, Mario while Charlie Day will be his friend Luigi. Then there is Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Jack Black as Bowser.
In addition, there are Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
"Each voice will showcase their ability to capture the uniqueness of each character," the production team said in a statement.
Mario Bros. is a video game created by Shigeru Miyamoto in 1985. The game tells the story of Mario and Luigi, two friends who take on missions on their journey.
“We collaborated with Chris and his experienced team not only to create licensed characters but to bring Super Mario Bros. to the big screen and make everyone enjoy even if they don't know the game,” said Miyamoto.
The Super Mario Bros. movie is one of Nintendo's explorations in developing the game franchise. Previously, they worked with Universal to establish Mario Bros rides at Universal Japan, Universal Hollywood, and Universal Orlando.
The animated Super Mario Bros. film is slated for release on December 21, 2022.
