JAKARTA - Cinta Laura admits that she is very selective in choosing the roles and films she will star in, one of which is by ensuring that the film does not depict women as weak figures. He did not hesitate to reject roles that cornered women.

According to him, there are not many strong female characters in the entertainment world, especially movies, so many young people, especially women, grow up thinking that they cannot be free to do things.

"It's not that there aren't strong female characters, but there aren't many. So children grow up thinking that as women, they can only do this and can't do that," said Cinta Laura in the Webinar Series of the Indonesian Film Journalists Festival (FFWI) entitled The Role and Position of Women in Indonesian Film, Tuesday, 22 September.

"I don't want to continue like that. Therefore, I always make sure to choose a strong female character," continued Cinta Laura.

Cinta Laura added that through the character she plays in a film, she wants to show that women are people with complex thoughts.

"Last month I was offered a series in an OTT. I was enthusiastic at first, but after I read the script I was shocked because the way the character thought became emotional without a strong justification. too strong, later he will look boring'. I was shocked to hear that, so I'm sorry I can't accept this role, "he said.

Furthermore, Cinta Laura said that the audience must see that women are very strong in enduring all pain, both physically, mentally, and emotionally.

"I want my roles in the film to empower women and see them realize that as women, they have the power to lead their own lives, are free to think, and free to express themselves," added Cinta Laura.

Especially in today's digital era, according to Cinta Laura, people are very easy to accept content including movies through over the top (OTT) services, so filmmakers need to present useful content.

"So we have to present content, films, or songs that can help the younger generation to think critically, innovatively, and creatively. The things we present must have meaning," said Cinta Laura.

"And it is very important that we add strong women's roles in films so that Indonesian women know that they are equal to men, they are able to pursue their dreams and become the best version of themselves," he added.
