Synopsis Of The Director's Cut Version Of The Film Detak Airing Starting September 17

JAKARTA - The film Detak is the director's cut version of the Lengger Maut Dance. The film will be limited to online theaters from September 17 to October 3.

The film Detak tells the story of mystery and disaster in a village, one by one the residents disappear. The incident coincided with the arrival of a doctor from the city named Jati (played by Refal Hady). Behind his appearance, it turns out that Doctor Jati is the cause of the disappearance of the villagers.

On the other hand, an aspiring lengger dancer named Sukma (played by Della Dartyan) believes that lengger dancers being given a gift can keep the village from disaster.

Director Yongki Ongestu said the director's cut version of the film has been screened and won awards at various film festivals outside Indonesia. This ultimately prompted the production team's decision to publish the final edited result based on the director's wish so that all film lovers can enjoy it.

“This version we bring around to various film festivals abroad. So we want viewers in the country to also be able to enjoy this version,” said Yongki Ongestu during a virtual media gathering on Tuesday, September 15.

Detak has won the 2021 European Cinematography Awards (ECA) for the categories of Best Feature Film, Best Cinematography, and Best Film Poster.

This year, Detak was nominated for the Rome Independent Cinema Festival, Honorable Mention at the La Underground Film Forum, and Official Selection at the Sacramento Underground Film and Arts Festival. In 2020, the film was also nominated for the Genre Celebration Festival for Best Cinematography and Best Drama Feature.

"We hope this version can be enjoyed by the audience. And because the cinema version has been shown in offline cinemas, so the festival version will be shown in online cinemas," said Producer Aryanna Yuris as quoted by ANTARA.

When compared to the Lengger Maut Dance, which premiered in theaters on May 13, the director's cut version offers a special interesting difference.

Yongki said there is special treatment (treatment) for working on the director's cut version, such as making pre-visualization or depicting scenes before filming.

“The first treatment is pre-visualization. Before this film was worked on and produced, we had made animations throughout the full length of the film. There is blocking and all kinds of camera movement. So when we read, at least the players already have a shadow and when filming it also speeds up the process, "explained Yongki.

He also added other treatments for the film "Detak", such as psychology of direction and psychology of colors which highlight changes in characters through camera movement and color palettes.

“There is a significant difference with 'Dance Lengger Death'. The film 'Detak' is much more detailed, the taste is really for movie connoisseurs. Character recognition is also stronger. So, if you like watching movies that are detailed and have lots of symbols, watch and enjoy this version," said Yongki.
