Follow In Tenet's Footsteps, Disney Officially Delays Mulan's Release Date

JAKARTA - Seeing Tenet's steps in delaying its screening, Disney treats the same thing with the film Mulan. On Friday, June 26, time in the United States (US), Disney officially postponed the screening of this film directed by Niki Caro.

Previously, Mulan was scheduled to air on July 24, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic that hasn't subsided, Disney didn't want to take any chances. August 21 was chosen to be the new date for the release of the film, starring Liu Yifei, Donnie Yen, and Rosalind Chao.

Neither Mulan nor Tenet wanted to be the first film released amid a pandemic. Production houses think about the risks as well as the benefits they will get if they do this. Moreover, these two films have characters and have the potential to bring huge profits.

Reporting from The Verge, Bob Chapek as the CEO of Disney saw the developments made by competitors, if their film airs and produces good sales, then Mulan believes she can follow these steps. But if the results are bad, Disney could move Mulan to another date.

The expectations of US cinemas to air also depend on Mulan and Tenet as market pullers. Even Warner Bros. re-aired Inception to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this film as an alternative to Tenet's withdrawal.

In the US, cases of COVID-19 have reached more than 2.5 million cases with a total death toll of 127 thousand. Even though it is currently undergoing a transition period, it cannot reduce the number of cases.

The entertainment business doesn't want to take the risk of becoming a source of growing cases. Therefore, Mulan and Tenet took steps to postpone official screenings in theaters.

Mulan tells of a woman named Mulan (Liu Yifei) who disguises herself as a man. He fought to avoid his ailing father from serving in the Imperial Army. Mulan also fought to fight invaders from north in China.
