JAKARTA - Artist celebrations broadcast on television, such as the wedding of Lesti Kejora with Rizky Billar on August 19, reaped the pros and cons. Many netizens protested because they did not get quality broadcasts for them.

Entertainment observer and senior journalist, Ilham Bintang has his own opinion on this matter. According to him, this cannot be separated from the television station's need for ratings.

"Rating is TV's god, its prophet is the audience. So whatever the audience is interested in will be the material for TV," he told VOI.

According to him, the freedom to choose the spectacle returns to the audience. "If people object to it entering public spaces, now is the era of independence. You can enjoy the freedom of watching from thousands of channels with remote controls. If you don't like it, turn off the TV," he said.

Ilham Bintang also commented on the reasons for using the public sphere as a reason for rejecting the artist's celebration on TV. "It was different when TVRI was the only TV, it violated the public sphere. For us, it might be too much, for TV managers to be happy because they get a lot of advertisements. You are not forced to watch, you are free to choose," he explained.
