Lawrence Wong's Mystical Experience While Filming Chinese Drama, The Ferryman: The Legends Of Nanyang

JAKARTA - iQiyi launched the supernatural genre drama The Ferryman: The Legends of Nanyang through a virtual press conference attended by the cast, including Lawrence Wong, Qi Yuwu, Kate Kinney, Tay Ping Hui, Jeanette Aw, Debbie Goh, Jojo Goh, and Koe Yeet. The Ferryman: The Legends of Nanyang is iQiyi's first horror drama.

The Ferryman: The Legends of Nanyang, tells the story of a brave duo, Xia Dong Qing (Lawrence Wong) and Zhao Li (Qi Yuwu), who help curious spirits settle their affairs in the mortal world. This drama can be watched starting on August 24, 2021 every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 19:00 WIB through the iQiyi application and the iq.com website.

This drama is adapted from the popular Soul Ferry franchise. A young man named Xia Dong Qing (Lawrence Wong) and Ferry Man named Zhao Li (Qi Yu Wu) help the spirits who have long been lost in the human world to settle their affairs there. Xia Dong Qing had been able to see and communicate with spirits since she was a child, but it turned out that her abilities brought her a lot of trouble.

Lawrence admitted that he was enthusiastic about starring in this drama because he had never played supernatural horror. "I'm actually very interested in playing horror films, when I got a casting opportunity, I immediately accepted it," he said, Friday, August 20.

The Xia Dong Qing he plays also has a unique character because he can see ghosts since childhood. "I am intrigued by the character of people who can see ghosts. He has strong feelings for the living and the dead. He has a deep sense of helping the dead to move on," he explained.

Speaking of ghosts, Lawrence then recounted the mystical experiences he had while filming. "There is no special experience, yes, but this is someone else's experience while filming. There is an experience of the crew hearing voices of people talking behind the set. Even though we all knew we had to be quiet because we were filming. Then we all stopped, and checked back it wasn't there are people," said the actor from Singapore.

Lawrence Wong himself admitted that he was often sick while filming the drama The Ferryman: The Legends of Nanyang. "I've never felt like this before. I often feel sick when filming," he explained.
