JAKARTA - The global streaming and video-on-demand platform for various Asian entertainment providers, iQiyi has announced a new Chinese drama title which is the first production in Southeast Asia, entitled The Ferryman: The Legends of Nanyang. This drama involves players from Malaysia, Singapore, and of course China.

iQiyi launched this supernatural drama genre through a virtual press conference attended by the cast, including Lawrence Wong, Qi Yuwu, Kate Kinney, Tay Ping Hui, Jeanette Aw, Debbie Goh, Jojo Goh, and Koe Yeet.

Kuek Yu-Chuang, Vice President of International Business at iQiyi, said that audience interest in Chinese dramas is growing worldwide. "iQiyi is one of the pioneers that provides a lot of these shows. We are really enthusiastic when we see the number of global users who are enthusiastic about watching Chinese dramas," he said, Friday, August 20.

From the results of a survey conducted by iQiyi through Pollfish in August 2021 involving 5,200 respondents from 26 countries, it shows that 76% of global respondents started trying to watch Chinese dramas in the last two years, 43% of whom watched via streaming platforms.

"1 in 2 people surveyed also claimed to enjoy watching Chinese dramas and would recommend Chinese dramas they like to others. More than 40% of respondents also considered it important for streaming services to offer Chinese-language content," he explained.

That's why iQiyi tries to continue to innovate by providing a different spectacle. The Ferryman: The Legends of Nanyang is iQiyi's first horror drama.

The Ferryman: The Legends of Nanyang, tells the story of a brave duo, Xia Dong Qing (Lawrence Wong) and Zhao Li (Qi Yuwu), who help curious spirits settle their affairs in the mortal world. This drama can be watched starting on August 24, 2021 every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 19:00 WIB through the iQiyi application and the iq.com website.

This drama is adapted from the popular Soul Ferry franchise. A young man named Xia Dong Qing (Lawrence Wong) and Ferry Man named Zhao Li (Qi Yu Wu) help the spirits who have long been lost in the human world to settle their affairs there. Xia Dong Qing had been able to see and communicate with spirits since she was a child, but it turned out that her abilities brought her a lot of trouble.

In addition to The Ferryman: The Legends of Nanyang, iQiyi will also soon air the drama Danger Zone, which is highly anticipated by Chinese drama fans and Rainless Love in a Godless Land. Here's a synopsis coming soon on iQiyi:

Danger Zone

Starring Vic Chou, Christopher Lee, Berant Zhu, Sandrine Pinna, Wu Hsing-kuo, and Tseng Jing-hua, Danger Zone tells of various murder cases in a coastal town called Donglin. Rainless Love in a Godless Land

Rainless Love in a Godless Land tells a story inspired by the mythology of the indigenous Amis tribe, about the forbidden love story between a tour guide and the God of Rain. The drama stars award-winning actors Chiao Chiao Tzeng, Paul Fu, Kenny Yen, Alice Ko (Special Appearance), and Joseph Cheng (Special Appearance).
